SALON: April 7, 2024 “The Seven Principles” – Host: Margot Haynes

I invite us to savor together our Seven Principles while realizing that our national UU

organization is on the cusp of voting on a proposal to replace them. The current principles are:

We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm

and promote:

  1. The inherent worth and dignity of every person.
  2. Justice, equity, and compassion in human relations.
  3. Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our

congregations.

  1. A free and responsible search for truth and meaning.
  2. The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process.
  3. The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all.
  4. Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

Questions to be addressed in this Salon will be:

 Which one (or two) of the Seven Principles has meant the most to you? Why?

 Should we continue to teach these to our children in our religious education program

even if they are replaced nationally?
