Joseph Sittler, a favorite professor of mine in Divinity School, taught us that gratitude is the beginning of wisdom, the beginning of good ethics, good prayer, good theology, a good life.  On this Sunday after Thanksgiving, I am going to speak of my understanding of gratitude. What gifts have we been given in our lives? What do nature and history offer us? What do our families and teachers and friends have to give us to enrich our lives? I want to share some of my reflections on these questions in the hope that you will take some time during the coming week to do your own accounting of the gifts you have received.
