SEPTEMBER 27, 2027 – “The Brain is Wider than the Sky: Emily Dickinson and Unitarian Theology” – Professor Sean Henne
To be clear, Emily was not a Unitarian. But she lived during the golden age of American transcendentalism, and given her poetic sensibilities, had she wandered into a UU congregation, she would have felt entirely at home. Emily’s poems express a sacramental view of ordinary experience and an ardent feeling that truth is too large to be confined by creed. Emily was a questioner, a dissenter, and a devotee of the imagination; I love her poetry so deeply I consider her a friend, and I welcome the chance to share her poems with your congregation.
